At least 10 persons were killed across Kashmir during the past three days, even as government forces carried out 12 anti-militancy operations in Pulwama, Shopian and Anantnag districts. The slain include three civilians, five militants and two army soldiers.
Four persons, including top Lashker-e-Toiba commander Abu Dujana and his associate Arif Nabi Dar were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Pulwama district on Tuesday while two civilians were also shot dead by the government forces near the gun-battle site. However, police had claimed that civilians died in cross-firing between the holed up militants and the forces.
On Thursday, two Hizbul-Mujahideen militants Aqib Hamid Itoo and Suhail Arif were killed in an ambush in Kulgam district and on the same day, a soldier and an army Major were also killed in Shopian district.
On Friday in Anantnag district, one militant and a civilian were killed during an anti-militancy operation.
In the past three days, army and special operation group of J&K police have also carried out at least 12 operations in Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Kulgam districts. “The 12 operations include four operations in which 10 persons were killed,” said a police officer. “Some of the operations were carried out where there is no habitation.”
He said “militancy violence” is showing an upward trend. “There are militancy related incidents everyday in south Kashmir,” he added.
Director general of police SP Vaid said, “The anti-militancy operations have been intensified.”
